| 2009-08-21
|
| As a consequence of earthquake and strong typhoon in Taiwan days ago, a number of telecommunications submarine cables have been damaged, affecting the outbound internet service in local and other territories through the damaged cables. It is reported that internet connection from mainland China to North America was affected by 70%, while Internet traffic in Hong Kong was congested or even disconnected, especially some users were incapable to access several overseas website and the instant communication software like MSN.
Soon after the incident has happened, CTM has at once adopted contingency arrangements by re-routing the internet transmission via other telecommunication cables that enable to basically restore internet service and to keep the impact on customers at its minimal. As a result of high network traffic within the region to outbound through other cables, the access to certain international websites from local, Hong Kong or Mainland China may be slightly congested during peak hours,
CTM is keeping a close communication with the business partner for acquiring the latest progress about the restoring work of the damaged cables at anytime. The company reiterates that the monitor will be maintained on the network traffic round-the-clock which assure certain contingency measures would be made to remain local internet service to function normally. At the same time, the company will keep the public update about the progress of the restore work.
